Chief Financial Officer – City of Statesville, NC

Job Description:

The City of Statesville, NC is seeking a finance executive with significant governmental accounting experience to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This executive should have experience modernizing finance departments with demonstrable success in implementing new policies and procedures to increase efficiency and productivity. Operating under the Council-Manager form of government, Statesville manages electric, water and sewer and airport services in addition to traditional general fund operations with 484 benefitted staff (full and part-time) across 13 departments. Reporting to the City Manager, the CFO will oversee 14 staff (4 direct reports) and must assist with the development and monitoring of the City’s FY 22-23 budget of $144M, supported by a tax rate of $.5478 per $100 of assessed tax value.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field. CPA and/or MBA preferred. Five years of progressive leadership experience in governmental finance or organization-wide financial management, including two years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. NC Local Government Finance Officers Certification is required within one year of hire, contingent upon the availability of the courses. Must have the ability to be bonded and possess a valid driver’s license in the State of NC.

Salary and Benefits: The hiring range is $97,000 to $160,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. The City offers an excellent benefits package including a matching 401K with a 2.5% employer match.
