Certified Police Officer
The City of Harrisonburg is currently seeking applications for Virginia DCJS Certified Police Officers interested in joining HPD, which offers a rewarding career plus an excellent benefits package, including enhanced hazardous duty through the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).
Candidates who are not currently Certified Police Officers will not be considered for this process and should monitor the City’s website (https://www.harrisonburgva.gov/employment) for the next entry-level Police Officer-related posting. The City expects that posting to begin in Spring 2021 but the exact date has not yet been determined and cannot be confirmed at this time.
The preferred hiring range for this position is $19.64 – $23.57 per hour (equivalent to $40,851 – $49,025 annually). An exact offer will be dependent upon your years of experience as a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Officer, as listed below:
– 1-5 Years Experience = Up to 5% above $19.64 per hour
– 5.1-10 Years Experience = Up to 10% above $19.64 per hour
– 10.1-15 Years Experience = Up to15% above $19.64 per hour
– 15.1-20 Years Experience = Up to 20% above $19.64 per hour
