Certified Police Officer

The City of Harrisonburg is currently seeking applications for Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Police Officers interested in joining HPD as a part-time employee to assist with Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDO).
Candidates who are not currently Virginia DCJS Certified Police Officers will not be considered for this process and should monitor the City’s website for the next entry-level Police Officer-related posting. The City expects that posting to begin in 2022 but the exact date has not yet been determined and cannot be confirmed at this time.
The preferred hiring range for this position is $20.53 – $23.61 per hour. An exact offer may be determined upon your years of experience as a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Officer and other related factors.

This position will:
– Assist primarily with calls for service related to Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDO).
– Take custody of ECO consumers and maintain security of the person during the entire process.
– Serve on an on-call basis to transport all TDO consumers to the appropriate mental health facility located outside of the city limits.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
