The Assistant Director – Electric is responsible for directing and managing the Electric Utility Division of the Utilities Department, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures and law, and performing supervisory, administrative and professional engineering work to support the daily operation of the electric utility.
Essential Job Functions
The Assistant Director of Electric performs professional and administrative work in directing and managing all operations of the City Electric Utility Department. The Assistant Director of Electric will be responsible for all management responsibilities for the Electric Utility Department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing staff, providing leadership, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures, for engineering design, transmission & construction, which includes transmission lines and substations, generation, operations, and communication and controls (SCADA).
The qualified candidate manages, plans, and coordinates work activities required for capital Improvement projects, maintenance, replacement and rehabilitation of the power distribution and transmission system. The successful incumbent will have experience with operation and system integration of distributed electric generation facilities, and SCADA systems is preferred. Ensures staff compliance with OSHA, NESC and NERC regulations.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; supplemented by seven (7) years’ experience in public utility planning, operations and/or service. This position also requires a minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience. Must possess state certification as a Virginia Registered Professional Engineer. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
