Job Description:
he County of Prince George Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is seeking an experienced attorney to act as a regional prosecutor focused on firearms offenses and gun violence. This position will be shared with the City of Hopewell pursuant to an Operation Ceasefire Grant award from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Position is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases involving firearms in all Prince George and Hopewell Courts as well as the investigation and prosecution of straw purchases, recidivist offenders, and substantial risk orders. Cases will be specially assigned by each office. Position will be responsible for tracking statistics for grant and drafting grant reports. Successful candidate must possess the following:
Licensed to practice law in Virginia
Comprehensive knowledge of laws governing criminal practice and procedure
Ability to write legal briefs and perform legal research
Independently prepare cases for trial and litigate those cases in court
At least five years of prosecution experience or functional equivalent
Proficiency in the prosecution of weapons offenses and crimes of violence
Extensive jury trial experience
Strong organizational, computer and communication skills
Ability to advise law enforcement during and outside of office hours
Must exhibit steadfast commitment to fairness and public service
Pre-employment physical/drug testing and criminal background check, to include fingerprinting, required.
This position is grant-funded and does not follow the County’s pay/step plan methodology. This position may not be subject to County or State pay increases. The grant funds the position from 1/1/2023 through 12/31/2024.
