VML will host an interactive seminar on the Freedom of Information Act and the Conflict of Interests Act for local officials and employees in Richmond, VA on June 6. For the FOIA part, the seminar offers the perspective of a local government official regarding the Freedom of Information Act as well as an overview of the FOIA changes passed by the General Assembly in 2018. This portion qualifies for the annual training for the FOIA officers as required by law.
The Conflict of Interests portion of the training consists of reviewing real-life conflict questions and how to apply the Conflict of Interests Act.
Cost for each seminar is $75 which includes a box lunch.
NOTE: The second seminar has been canceled. VML apologizes for a change in the FOIA/COIA program to have been held in Roanoke, VA on June 7. If you have registered for training in Roanoke, a refund will be generated. We would like to extend the opportunity to those that have previously registered for the program in Roanoke to register free of charge for the training in Richmond, VA on June 6.

Conflict of Interests Act training module available
The Virginia Conflict of Interests Act regulates the financial relationship of council members and mayors with their city or town and with any other governmental agency that is related to the city or town. The act is intended to be the one-stop-shopping law for a council member’s financial involvement in dealings with the city or town.
The training module for state officer and employees may be accessed on the Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council’s website here.
